Each time we see technical staff growing longer, formed by different professionals in our sports clubs: coaches, delegates, physiotherapists, physical trainers, big data, doctors, sports statisticians, reconditioners….

But do we fully understand the role and functions of each one of them?
In this post, we will focus on understanding the function of physical preparation in basketball and the physical trainer at ITW Sport, what their functions are, areas of work, and together with the physiotherapist, help athletes improve their sports performance.
We also want to introduce the new Conditional Area (performance and health) that will be a novelty this year 2021 in our fifth edition.
The first question that we all have in mind when we hear about physical preparation is:
Why a physical trainer?
In our summer basketball camp, we have created this performance and health area with very clear objectives.
To have the maximum number of players available in each training session during the basketball camp
- Prevent injuries (Assessing imbalances and asymmetries between our players)
- Manage training loads for our training shifts
- Speed up recovery processes for our athletes after their daily training sessions.
- Control daily readiness of our athletes for training and their tolerance to effort
Improve the specific physical abilities in basketball of our athletes:
- Specific work on motor skills: Strength as the foundation of physical abilities (specific and compensatory)
- Change of direction technique and running technique work
- Work on endurance for high-intensity actions
- Mejorar su flexibilidad y amplitud de movimiento
